Diagnostic Assessment
A full diagnostic assessment is needed for a formal diagnosis of dyslexia. I am happy to assess adults and children from age 8 upwards. Assessments are carried out face-to-face, either in your home or in school , college or a workplace (by arrangement) . An assessment takes about 3-4 hours and can be carried out in one or two sessions depending on the individual.
During the assessment a comprehensive battery of cognitive and attainment tests will be used. These are non-invasive and test areas such as processing, reading, writing, spelling and visual / verbal abilities.
Prior to the assessment a background information questionnaire will be sent to parents and the school. There is also a questionnaire for the child to complete, focussing on how they perceive their strengths and weaknesses. There is no revision or preparation to do to be ready for the day of the assessment - just a good nights sleep and a good breakfast.
Following the assessment a full report is generated, usually within 15 working days. The report outlines the background of the referral, diagnostic outcome, assessment performance, the impact of findings and recommendations for support for home and school / college. / workplace
If no diagnosis has been possible, recommendations for support are made to develop any areas of weakness and an onward referral may be suggested, if appropriate.
A diagnosis can be used to support an application for the Disabled Student Allowance (DSA) at university or to support a request for accommodations in the work place.
All reports follow guidelines set out by SpLD Assessment Standards Committee (SASC).
A deposit is due upon booking an assessment and payment must be made in full before the assessment date.
